Why a New Labeling Solution was Needed Hyperlast’s customers rely on accurate label information and accompanying documentation for handling instructions and information about the product’s suitability for different applications. For this reason is it vital that Hyperlast’s product identification process uses a reliable source of data that is accurate and available in different languages. Ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance for documentation and container labeling for hazardous products is also a priority. Hyperlast decided that to ensure a constant and reliable source of data and reduce human error they would automate their labeling system, and at the same time integrate it with the classification and materials safety data sheet (MSDS) system and ERP system in order to bring specific customer information directly onto product labels at print time. The search was on for a supplier that could meet all of these requirements and supply multilingual labeling software that was compliant with CHIP 3 regulations. The Solution PRISYM ID’s windows based PRISYM labeling software was used as the solution for the label design and data handling element. PRISYM gathers the variable product information and relevant risk and safety data required for each label from the existing classification and MSDS systems. The integration of these systems is achieved from a bespoke "front-end", or user screen, written by our developers, which provides a simple interface for the operators to create the labels they require by making a series of selections from the options displayed on screen. A CSV file is produced by the ERP system, containing order details such as product name, quantity and order number, label design name, and the correct languages for the destination of the batch/product. The completed file is sent to a location where it is automatically imported into PRISYM. The file is used to automatically populate the fields in the chosen label design whilst also looking at the MSDS database and extracting all the relevant risk and safety phrases symbols, and material handling and transport information. Once populated, the label design is sent direct to the chosen printer with the only operator intervention being the removal of the completed labels from the printer. There is also the capability to extend the system to include pallet labels for the despatch operation, which Hyperlast plan to implement in the near future. The Benefits Hyperlast have seen many benefits, with customer and product information being incorporated directly from the order entry system. The whole process saves operator’s time in producing the labels. There is no search for accurate information, or concern whether information is complete or current. It also reduces the time required by a qualified health and safety person to maintain multiple risk and safety databases and importantly reduces translation and manual input errors in the information supplied with the product to the customer. The team at PRISYM ID has provided a user friendly, automated solution that ensures consistent and accurate product identification and hazardous information communication.
